Position Overview
Metz Lewis, a fast-growing middle-market law firm is seeking an Accounts Payable and Accounting Assistant to support the Controller and the firm’s accounting department. This position will be primarily responsible for accounts payable, expense processing, account reconciliations, and general accounting support.
The ideal candidate is organized, accurate, responsive, and comfortable working in a professional environment with confidential financial information.
Key Responsibilities
- Process vendor invoices, employee reimbursements, and credit-card transactions.
- Review invoices and expenses for proper approval, coding, and supporting documentation.
- Prepare checks, ACH payments, and other disbursements.
- Maintain vendor records and respond to vendor and employee inquiries.
- Reconcile credit-card, bank, and selected general-ledger accounts.
- Assist with monthly closing procedures, journal-entry support, and financial-report preparation.
- Maintain electronic accounting records and supporting documentation.
- Assist with payroll, billing, collections, and trust-accounting functions as needed.
- Prepare reports and schedules requested by the Controller.
- Help maintain accounting procedures and internal controls.
- Provide general administrative support to the accounting department.
Qualifications
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field preferred.
- At least 2 years of accounts-payable, bookkeeping, or general accounting experience preferred.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and accounting software.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
