So far 2020 has been filled with great uncertainty.

However, two things are certain through the end of 2020 – (1) we know the tax rules and the planning implications for individuals, and (2) we know that tax reform is a high priority in the Democrat policy platform.

The Presidential and Congressional elections could create dramatic political and tax policy changes that potentially could be effective January 1, 2021.

One dramatic potential change is a reduction in the lifetime gift and estate tax exemption from the 2020 amount of $11,580,000 per person to as little as $3,500,000. Tax rates may be in play as well.

There are a number of estate planning strategies that are available.

However, the time for consideration is now, especially considering using some or all of your $11,580,000 exemption. This planning strategy presents a tax savings opportunity that could become significantly limited.
