On Tuesday, May 20, 2014, in the case of Whitewood vs. Wolf, U.S. District Court Judge John E. Jones III ruled that Pennsylvania’s Defense of Marriage Act (“PDMA”) violated the due process and equal-protection clauses of the 14th Amendment of the United States Constitution. This decision follows the Windsor decision in which the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the definition of marriage in the federal Defense of Marriage Act was unconstitutional.
