The 2017 Tax Act dramatically increased the federal, gift, and generation skipping transfer exemption to $11.18 million per person. The increased exemption is set to sunset at the end of 2025.

For high net worth individuals, this increased exemption provides a unique opportunity to transfer assets and future appreciation on gifted assets and avoid future estate tax.
